I received both my Dr. phil. in American Studies and my habilitation in North American Literature and Culture from the Freie Universität Berlin.
My first book, Landschaft und Territorium: Amerikanische Literatur, Expansion und die Krise der Nation, 1784-1866, has been published with Wilhelm Fink in 2014. My articles have appeared in Law & Literature, Leviathan: A Journal of Melville Studies, Early American Literature, Amerikastudien/ American Studies, and ESQ: A Journal of the American Renaissance. I’m currently working on my second book, Narratives of Consequence: Law, Action, and the American Novel, 1877-1925.
I’ve taught at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Freie Universität Berlin, University of Chicago, Goethe-Universität Frankfurt and Europa-Universität Viadrina.
